Researchers at USC developed technology utilizing nanochristals to produce cheap and stable solar cells that may be printed on clear surfaces or stay as liquid ink. Cadmium solenoid, a semiconductor, comprises the surface coating. A synthetic ligament has been made to stabilize nanochristals and help transmit electricity. The researchers are looking for materials other then cadmium, so that the coating is non-toxic and thus could be used on almost any surface for commercial use.
