Key2Share Technology Allows You To E-mail A Key
German researchers from the Fraunhofer Institute in collaboration with Bosch have developed an innovative technology that allows NFC-equipped smartphones unlock doors, and let one person e-mail a key to the other. The Key2Share technology, which has been presented at the CeBIT show, might eventually prove very useful in various situations, e.g. if you’re travelling and your colleague needs to get into your office, you can e-mail your key to him. A routine check-in can be bypassed, if a hotel sends a key to their customers in a text message or e-mail. In case an employee loses a smartphone, a company could quickly call off access and then issue new keys very quickly. Here is how it works: to send the key, a person sends a recipient a QR code that grants access; to use the key, a smartphone app for the task is required and an NFC-equipped phone, which excludes iPhones at the moment.
