Spermbot Could Help Solve Male Infertility




One of the main causes of infertility is low sperm motility. Sperm that are healthy, but can’t swim. Now a team of scientists has developed a possible solution: the Spermbot.

Oliver Schmidt, Ph.D. and his team at the IFW in Dresden, Germany built a tiny metal helix controlled by a rotating magnetic field. The Spermbot can wrap around a sperm and drive it into an egg, leading to possible fertilization.
