Robotic Legs + Brain-Like Controller = Human Motion Mimic (+VIDEO)

The scientists at the University of Arizona created biomechanical legs modeled after the human legs, having the hip, the knee and ankle joints with nine “muscles” completed with Kevlar straps tied to motors. To control these robotic legs the researchers created a neural controller coordinating the signals from the load sensors in the muscles and contracting sensors in the toes and heel. The idea behind this invention is to create robots that will move away if a human pushes it or change direction if it bumps into something, so that the robot can be safe to operate around human beings. The next step is to give the robot visual and tactile sensors.
