NASA Aims To Launch Manned Missions Into Deep Space From Skylab 2 (+VIDEO)

Skylab 2, the planned successor to NASA’s original space station, could become humanity’s first deep space station. It would be located beyond the moon at a gravity-stable point in space called “Earth-moon Lagrange point 2″ and from there astronauts will launch manned missions to asteroids, Mars and Phobos. Skylab 2 would use the new Space Launch System (SLS), the world’s-largest rocket meant to propel astronauts to Mars all on its own. Most of the SLS would be filled with the main module of Skylab 2, which will occupy the space equal to a two-story house. Wth that amount of space a crew consisting of four members could be supplied for months at a time, without the need for regular resupply missions from Earth.
