The Indian Space Research Organization has stated that it will be sending an orbiter to Mars in a year down the road, in 2013. The $90 million craft will carry about nine individual instruments equaling to 55 pounds of science payload, and will focus on just several aspects, keeping it to “life, climate, geology, origin, evolution and sustainability of life on the planet,” the organization says. After that is accomplished, India plans to become the fourth nation to send a manned mission into space on hardware developed domestically, as early as in 2016.
