Google Lunar Landing Vehicle 2014

A team of 100 innovative part time scientists compete with 25 other teams to win Google Lunar X Prize in 2014. The team is designing an autonomous moon landing vehicle relying on images and date collected by NASA. Wesley Faler, the group chief software developer, says the manned mission images were helpful but the success depends on the rover behavior on the lunar surface. The video data of the initial landing moments and info from the on soil composition from feedback sensors will help the team judge the initial results they can expect from the rover. Challenging part is their dependence on the low resolution images that may hamper the touchdown. And the only limitation to be overcome is the 3 minutes image processing time.
