Walk Naturally In Virtual Environments On A Treadmil From Virtuix Omni

The Virtuix Omni is the first locomotion device that is affordable for household consumers, fits in a living room, and above all, enables the user to walk freely and naturally in virtual environments. Designers have remade a common treadmill into a omnidirectional machine for interactive gameplay. Gamers will be able to actually walk or run through a game and this would both create a more immersive experience and serve as a source of exercise. The current prototype utilizes a hacked Kinect and a head-mounted display with built-in head-tracking. Accorfing to Virtuix, the possibilities of omnidirectional movement in virtual reality are infinite: training and simulation, fitness and exercising, virtual tourism, virtual tradeshows and events, virtual meet-ups and multi-person adventures, virtual workplaces, virtual museums, physical therapy, VR architecture, VR concerts, etc. You can watch the videos showing the system being used with PC games Skyrim and Crysis Warhead below.
