Travel Companies Will Sell Private Tours On The Suborbital Lynx Spacecraft

Canadian public interest in space is rising each year and some of the Canadian travel companies made a decision to develop a new destination: space. Toronto-based Adventure Travel Company (ATC and Montreal-based Uniktour will offer their well-off clients rides on the suborbital Lynx spacecraft under development by Mojave, Calif-based XCOR Aerospace. In fact these companies are acting as agencies for Space Exploration Corp. (SXC). Uniktour’s tickets range between $95,000 and $100,000, while ATC’s offerings start at $142,000 Canadian ($141,840 at current conversion rates), though inculde a longer hotel stay and training. It is now planned that XCOR will get the first tourists into its Lynx space plane by the end of this year for high-altitude flights, and then offer regular suborbital flights above 62 miles (100 kilometers) in 2014. XCOR’s Lynx spacecraft will carry one passenger and one pilot per flight, flying up to four times a day from a conventional space runway. Uniktour’s president, Philippe Bergeron is going to take the Uniktour test flight aboard a Lynx spacecraft himself in late 2013. Sales started in April 2011, and as the flight date approaches the number of the clients rises.
