Strive To Drive Safely? Intelligent Co-Pilot Safety System Will Help. (+VIDEO)

co-pilot safety system
Two mechanical engineers at MIT have developed a new semiautonomous safety system able to steer a vehicle automatically around obstacles when the driver does not take manual control of the car. The system includes on board camera, laser rangefinder for identifying obstacles, and an algorithm for analyzing data and recognizing both hazards to be avoided and safe zones on the road. Out of more than 1,200 trials, only few collisions have occurred, when malfunctions in the camera failed to identify an obstacle. The best thing about this system is that it takes control of the vehicle only when it gets on a collision course with something, in all the other surroundings the driver is to drive the car.
