NASA has recently presented a new robotic exoskeleton for astronauts, developed in cooperation with the Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition (IHMC). The XI is a 57-pound device will help astronauts sustain muscle and bone strength, providing 10 degrees of movement via four motorized joints at the hips and the knees. It was designed to prepare astronauts for the eventual trip back to Earth’s gravity environment, though in the future this device could also be used to assist astronauts working on the surface of distant planets.
