Google Glass Will Feature More Robust Hardware And Software

Google unveiled its Google Glass project six months ago and the tech giant is still improving the product, namely its software, hardware, phone call capability, battery life, and voice commands. The debut of the titanium-framed glasses headset took place at the Google I/O conference in June, when the wearable platform had video and audio capability, along with a built-in compass and accelerometer, and it was controlled by head movements. Now the device features a touch pad for changing settings and Google is running experiments with voice commands.
“We constantly try out new ideas of how this platform can be used. We’re also trying to make the platform more robust. This includes making the hardware more robust and the software more robust, so we can ship it to developers early this year,” Babak Parviz, the head of the Google Glass project, told IEEE Spectrum. The team is currently working on adding in a phone call feature to the glasses, and prolonging the battery life. It’s not clear, whether the glasses will have incorporated apps or some other type of functionality.
Google Glass will be available to consumers in 2014, but Google claims that a group of developers will have the chance to buy the $1,500 “Explorer” edition of the device in early 2013.
