DARPA has been developing project Phoenix within the framework of which the robots, flying in the orbit will dock with and extract parts from the inactive satellites and build new platforms called “satlets” by the agency. Phoenix could also be employed to maintain and improve existing orbital platforms. DARPA has chosen Honeybee Robotics to create the arms for the robotic spacecraft. The Phoenix craft is to be working in orbit starting 2015.
