Czech National Library Concept By Nau
Nau has managed to become a finalist of the 2007 New National Library of Czech Republic Competition. The design represents past, present and future of the Czech culture. The focal point of the project is the contrast between two main completely different spaces–the National Archive and the Universal Collection–wrapped by an exterior membrane.
The construction features transparent and penetrable properties, offering a variety of climatic and acoustic functions that include complete transparency at the top, perforations for skylights in reading rooms, windows in office spaces, and penetrable apertures in the ground floor. The visitor can walk up the stairs to a viewing platform, which is situated in the space, created at the intersection of the two volumes, and enjoy Prague skyline, highlighting impeccable Gothic and Baroque styles.
