Artificial Muscles That Can Adapt Color (+VIDEO)
Team of University of Bristol scientists has created a soft, elastic artificial muscle, able to blend with the environment through changing its color. In their project scientists combined biomimicry and robotics. They adapted the squids’ color changing mechanism to create artificial muscles that alter color. Using dielectric elastomers (DEs) that expand when connected to electric circuit, the researchers mimicked the rapid growth of these artificial muscles. Now imagine what smart color changing devices and clothes might come out of this invention.
