Hyundai has unveiled an outlandish egg-shaped concept vehicle at the Seoul Motor Show, in South Korea. The ‘E4U’, an open-topped single person ‘scooter’ similar to a Segway, presents a new line in travel for commuters. Unlike the traditional two-wheel design, the prototype uses a ‘rotating semispherical part’, which works like the lower half of a ball and is used for propulsion instead of wheels. It works similarly to a helicopter, with the two rear wheels providing stability and friction to act like a helicopter’s tail rotor. The vehicle is stationary when the driver stands upright on a small platform, but as soon as the driver pushes forward, it drives on at walking speed. The vehicle is being directed by the driver’s tilting, so that different sides of the semisphere contact the ground. The top half of the ‘egg car’ can be worn as a helmet.
