Toyota’s Urban Smart INSECT
Toyota is displaying a new single person electric vehicle at CEATEC 2012, a small urban smart car, dubbed INSECT (an acronym for “Information Network, Social Electricity City Transporter”). This highly convenient concept car features a front mounted Microsoft Kinect to recognize the face and body shape of the registered driver as they approach. Due to the voice recognition, it can greet its driver as he / she nears; sensors analyze the driver’s hand, the car anticipates when a driver wants to enter and assists in opening the door. There’s a wireless charging pad inside and a dash monitor that connects with the drivers’ smartphone. With a simple touch of a button, you can call the Toyota Smart Center, where a virtual agent interacts with the driver by setting the destination and navigation system, activating various functions such as the lights, audio and entertainment systems. It also offers an app that could monitor and adjust things in your house such as lighting and air-conditioning and the like. The electric vehicle will speed up to 30 miles and will charge via a standard 100-volt AC outlet.
