To Get Alternative Energy US Goes Geothermal

MIT’s interdisciplinary panel estimated that the USA could produce 100,000 megawatts of geothermal energy within the next 50 years; 200,000 exajoules of energy could be captured from enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) by 2050 in US alone, which exceeds the county’s consumption of energy in 2005 about 2,000 times. The energy of the Earth’s crust can be attained 24/7 at a rate outperforming some coal plants. The geothermal power plant infrastructure requires less land and is less harmful to wildlife than solar or wind ones. Most techniques involve water heated underground to produce steam heating turbines, so a country with numerous volcanoes, geysers and hot springs can have the geothermal energy in surplus. While major EGS may be years away, Google.org has already donated $11 million for the development of this technology.
