Aiming to create a robot, which goes anywhere people and animals can go, Boston Dynamics has developed a four-legged robot, called “the most advanced rough-terrain robot on earth”. The military’s BigDog robot features now the ability to pick up and throw concrete cinder blocks. Designers have improved the performance of the robot due to the whole-body approach used by human athletes and animals: the strength of the legs and torso helps power motions of the arm. According to Boston Dynamics, the robot can climb 35-degree slopes, run at speed up to 4 mph, trek through muddy trails, rubble, snow, water, and even carry a 340-pound load on its back.
