The MacGyver Bot To Assist In Disaster Zones, Help Find People And Rebuild The Areas
A $900,000 grant has been received by Georgia Tech from the Office of Naval Research to construct a special robot with a purpose of completing missions in dangerous situations while taking advantage of arbitrary objects around the environment and using them as tools. The MacGyver bot, as the robot is referred to, would be placed in disaster and war zones to help find people and rebuild the areas. While working on his mission the humanoid robot is expected to solve complex problems and escape dangerous situations by using everyday objects and materials at hand. Nonetheless, there is still a long way to go before implementation of the robot in the military service, while the software to run simulations is still being tested.
