Scan TV With A Smart Phone To Get Information (+VIDEO)
Interactive television commercials are widely empoyed these days; banner overlays on ads have long let viewers ‘click’ for more product information or to get special offers. Recently brands have begun using Shazam logos in ads to reward viewers with bargains for watching the ads. On the one hand the banner overlays and Shazam buttons increase engagement, but on the other hand still they are very noticeable and an on-screen presence often interrupts the viewing experience. A new interactive technology enabling brands to embed coupons or URLs into TV commercials, and deliver the additional information from television sets directly to viewers’ smart phones has been invented by Fujitsu. This innovative technology would add lights that are visible to a phone camera but not to the human eye to a video stream, creating a scannable light-based QR codes. To get more information viewers would have to point their phone towards the TV and there would be no on-screen icon like with the banners or Shazam.
