Next Generation Wireless Power Transmission

Dr. Carrick Detweiler and Brent Griffin have devised a pretty powerful wireless magnetic resonant power transfer system that allows for unmanned aerial vehicles in their preprint of the paper ‘Resonant Wireless Power Transfer to Ground Sensors from a UAV’. The developers have addressed issues like complexities of implementing and outfitting this system on a UAV, efficient control focusing on making the most of the receiver power, and the reverse problem of delivering energy to ground sensors. In their paper, the scientists also experimentally demonstrate the developed prototype wireless power transfer system, which utilizes UAV to transmit around 5W of power to a ground sensor.
