One of the present-day lify tendencies is urban farming, which enables growing sustainable, organic produce for one’s own needs and consuming fresh, ecologically clean products. The Agri-Cube is a line of prefabricated hydroponic vegetable factories, designed by Daiwa House, Japan’s largest homebuilder, for housing complexes, hotels and top-end restaurants. Its price is about $70,000 and each Agri-Unit might grow about ten thousand servings of fruit and vegetables each year (operation cost of about US $4,500 are to be taken into account). If you want to have the Agri-Cube installed in your neighborhood, you have to prepare a concrete foundation about 10 square meters (108 square feet), along with plumbing and electrical utility hookups. The compact Agri-Cube is delivered at the installation place ready-made with all the hydroponic equipment, air conditioning, a heat-exchanging ventilation system, and special growth lights to enhance faster plant growth installed (solar panels and air curtains are optional).
