Jelly Bean: New Approach To Metropolitan Downtown
The city of Seattle decided to renovate its 9 acre heart. On the site of the present Memorial Stadium the modern public space is planned to appear. So far, 3 finalist projects have been chosen to create large scale presentations in May 2012 and to decide on the Grand prize winner. Along with it 7 merit awards will be given out.
The Jelly Bean is the original design idea by Praud architects chosen to be fully developed. It gives the site of the Memorial Stadium new scale with the help of surrounding blocks. There will be access points from public amenities within the site. The pedestrian walk will be the pattern to be enjoyed by the public without entering the site itself. There will be solid passages and void inversion passages. The topography will be different for the solids meant for joggers and walkers as well as for the voids providing landscape views and utilities. The Jelly Bean is actually the floating design to create a unity out of various park activities and guests. Being a micro level climate control device it can also create basic changes like rain, sun shine or fog effect per public demand. The Jelly Bean can also serve as a projection screen at night or for reflecting views of other parts of the city during the day.
