Innovative Robotic Book Scanner Reads Books At Speed (+VIDEO)
Japan’s Ishikawa Oku Laboratory has recently designed a new robotic book scanner , the BFS-Auto, featuring high speed, automated page flipping and real-time 3D page recognition to scan books at a rate of over 250 pages per minute. The Oxford Dictionary can be scanned in 10 minutes, the 32-volume Encyclopedia Britannica set – approximately in two hours. The innovation of this device is that it can flip pages very quickly with a high-definition resolution of up to 400 pixels per inch. Moreover it can compensate for the three-dimensional deformation of paper while the page is being flipped. The video below illustrates the device in action.
