Hospitals In The North America Are Using The Telepresence Platform RP-Vita
The telepresence platform RP-Vita, developed by iRobot and InTouch Health, got FDA’s approval this January and now seven hospitals in the North America are using it, bringing us one step closer to robotics-augmented healthcare. Doctors are now able to look in on stroke victims located at distant hospitals; they can direct the robot to the patient’s bed with the push of a button on an iPad. The RP-Vita gets around the busy hospital hallways due to thirty sensors, which allow it to avoid personnel and obstacles. If necessary, the robot can also plot an alternate course to reach its destination.
Once with the patient, the telepresence interface enables the doctor to check on the patient distantly. A two-way video allows the doctor and the patient to see and speak with each other; a zoom feature allows the doctor to read the patient’s chart and even check his or her eyes for dilated pupils.
