Herbow: A Flowerbed On Your Window Rain Shelter (+VIDEO)
A unique and unsurpassed design concept by Hsu Hao-Po, Chang Yu-Hui and Chang Chung-Wei has become a 2012 Red Dot Award winner. The idea of the concept lies in a combination of a rain shelter and a window herb garden. This window shelter concept has been designed with urban farming and city greening in mind. It enables people to grow small crops outside their windows while shielding their interior space from the rain and harsh sunlight. Moreover, it enlarges the city’s planting area and enhances the view from buildings. The mechanism of the so-called “tray” with plants is easy: by swinging Herbow upwards it becomes a rain shelter, when moved downwards one can change the flower pots or even bring them inside for decoration. In rainy weather the plants will be watered naturally and due to special holes on two sides of Herbow there won’t be any problems with excess water drainage.
