The Solar Park South has held an international competition for the best design to transform the abandoned viaduct in Salerno-Reggio Calabria, Italy into a modern functional structure. The joint project of Samuel Nageotte, OFF architecture, and PR architect presupposes transformation of the old highway into a vertical holiday complex. Being located in the picturesque surroundings near the mountains and the sea, it might become an ideal vacation resort. The “pile and deck” technique used in its construction can house residential and commercial spaces stacked on top of each other. Moreover, the whole complex could be powered with geothermal energy, because it is at a short distance to the mountain Etna.
