China’s Food E-commerce Site Opens Virtual Supermarkets

Yihaodian, one of the main China’s food e-commerce sites (51% is owned by Walmart), declared about its intention to open 1,000 virtual supermarkets across the country. It is reported that “Unlimited Yihaodian” grocery stores will be situated in vacant urban areas, and offer both online and offline shopping. Customers will be able to browse items and walk around a 1,200-square-meter store, there will be no need to stand in line or carry their purchases home. Being in the virtual store space, customers will use their smartphones to see the products and buy them. the contents of the supermarket will be revealed and the purchased items will be delivered to the customer’s place due to the Augmented Reality technology.
