AspireAssist Helps Fight Obesity
AspireAssist is an innovative device designed by the team of gastroenterologists aimed to help fight obesity. This device pairs with a valve that’s surgically implanted into the patient’s stomach and about 20 minutes after each meal, patients can drain up to a third of what they just ate through the valve. Since aspiration removes only a third of the food, the body still receives the calories it needs to function. In the beginning patients are recommended to aspirate about 3 times per day after each major meal and then reduce the frequency of aspirations. The aspiration process lasts 5 to 10 minutes and the food is drained directly into the toilet. AspireAssist has been recently patented by Segway inventor Dean Kamen and now the gadget must be approved by the FDA.
