An innovative conceptual light based on laser technology (APOLLO by Entwurfreich) has emerged in surgical illumination. APOLLO has a number of advantages over halogen or LED system, having higher luminous efficiency (170 lumen/watt compared to LEDs providing 100 lumen/watt) and a longer service cycle of laser diodes (90.000 hours in comparison to the 60.000 hours of LED technology). Built-in sensors allow automatic adjustment of the lamp throughout the surgery process. Moreover, the lamp is distinguished by a basic module design and a very compact dimension alongside with great flexibility and long maintenance cycles.
