3D Printing In Space. NASA’s On It.
For the past ten years NASA engineers have been developing an extraordinary kind of 3D printing called Electron Beam Freeform Fabrication (EFB3). The EFB3 utilizes an electron beam gun, computers and dual wire feed to create metal items from raw materials. That allows wide range of outcome possibilities. The team has also been working on testing the fabrication units of the system in parabolic flights with short period of weightlessness. The next step would be testing the units on the International Space Station (ISS). And with such equipment, NASA may one day be producing just anything you can see around…
