3D Gesture Controller Will Lead To Intuitive User Iinterfaces
An innovative technology promises to bring more dynamics to small mobile devices using the world’s first electrical field-based 3D gesture controller, the configurable MGC3130. The GestIC system is developed by Microchip Inc. to enable users to control their mobile devices with simple hand gestures. The controller maps your hand movements using electrical fields instead of using a camera to track them: users can turn pages, engage winding functions with a circular motion, and put their device to sleep with a simple hand movement. Its power usage is more efficient (it uses up to 90% less power than a camera), so it appears to be a better solution for mobile applications. This smart technology ensures 100% surface coverage (eliminating “angle of view” blind spots) and features a detection range of up to 15 cm. Microchip Inc. plans to launch mass production of this technology in April 2013. You can see the controller in action in the video below.
