MIT researches led by Ramesh Raskar give us a unique and much welcome opportunity to peak around the corner. They came up with the femtosecond laser 3D camera which emanates ultra-short light rays that bounce of all surfaces, and measured, return to the camera antenna. What that means for a simple person is that even the movement of an object behind opaque surfaces can be monitored. This technology allows using common objects as mirroring surfaces, helping firefighters and policemen treat dangerous situations efficiently and as well as ordinary drivers deal with blind turns.
