After the Fukushima nuclear disaster stroke in 2011 Toshiba has recently presented a new robot that was specially designed for work at the site of nuclear catastrophes. This robot can operate independently for up to two hours. It is fitted out with six cameras and a dosimeter and features a remote control that enables emergency workers to estimate the damage done to a nuclear site distantly. The quadrupedal robot can walk up and down stairs, furthermore it is paired with a small camera-equipped platform vehicle that can be utilized from the robot’s base to take photos in the areas difficult of access. Toshiba plans to deploy the robot to help TEPCO with its current repair works after the damage caused by the tsunami and the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011.
