The VGo Robot Keeps Connection To The User In Remote Locations (+VIDEO)
You must have already read news about the robotic telepresence technology in our previous reports about Mobi and Double, and here’s the Vgo displayed at the CTIA in New Orleans. The Vgo robot allows a user to see, hear, talk and wander around a remote location and thus can be widely used at schools, in medical field or even in business. To keep connection to the user, the VGo doesn’t require a Wi-Fi connection to transmit the constant video feed, cause it runs on Verizon’s LTE network. The user connects to the VGo through an application that’s available for both Macs and PCs. The standard model has a 6-hour battery life, so the VGo must return to a charging pad while it’s not in use to get charged. This robotic innovation could enable a sick student be present at a lecture and take part in a discussion (if a classroom is equipped with a Vgo). Thanks to a VGo a doctor could advise on a patient, even in case they are at a far distance from each other. A manager could connect to a VGo at home office to attend a meeting or perhaps ship the VGo to a remote office to check up on the operation. The only drawback of the VGo is that it can’t get around alone, if any obstacles like stairs or closed doors appear. The cost of the VGo ranges from $6,000 to $7,000; in addition the annual service contract costs about $100 a month.
