The First Female Android Will Operate On The ISS (+VIDEO)
A robot that resembles a human female, named AILA, might become the second android in space after the Robonaut 2. It has been designed by the Robotics Innovation Center at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence and the Robotics Group at the University of Bremen. AILA is currently being trained to work on the International Space Station on a mockup of the Columbus module of the ISS. According to Plastic Pals most of the time on the ISS AILA will be teleoperated from Earth with the help of the 6 DoF Catersian input device. Still the robot will be also able to perform tasks autonomously in case some communication problems occur. The robotic female will definitely bring some diversity to the all-male crew on future space exploration missions.
