Robotic Cheetah Runs Up To 18 Miles Per Hour (+VIDEO)
Boston Dynamics in collaboration with DARPA have designed a robot inspired by the galloping cheetah. Creating robots that move like creatures in nature is part of the Defense Department program called Maximum Mobility and Manipulation (M3). This legged robot concept uses the natural flexing of both legs and back that a cheetah has to reach the speed of 18 miles per hour. The current version of the Cheetah robot is powered by an off-board hydraulic pump, and uses a boom-like device to keep it running in the center of the treadmill. Until yet there’re no further details about the robot, still you can see from the video that the robot can lift all four feet from the ground and bend its back as it makes longer strides. Developers hope to test the robot prototype in real-world conditions later this year.
