Panasonic’s New Thermoelectric Material Reclaims Energy (+VIDEO)
The inefficient energy use results often in using little of that energy to do work, and then spend even more energy getting rid of all the waste heat. Panasonic has addressed this issue and developed an innovative technology to help make almost everything more efficient, from power plants to water heaters to car engines. The new thermoelectric material gets some of that energy back: it can suck 2.5 watts of electricity out of hot water running through a 10 centimeter section of pipe and 10 watts is enough to power a light bulb. This material is just accumulating energy from any energy source you used to heat up your water, though losing energy from hot water happens anyhow, but instead of losing that energy out into the environment, it’s being regained by the thermoelectric material.
