Microscale 3-D Printer Builds A Spaceship In 50 Seconds (+VIDEO)

The super-fast, high-resolution printer has been recently presented at the Photonics West fair by Nanoscribe GmbH, a German-based company, which specializes in nanophotonics and 3-D laser lithography. It took less this microscale 3-D printer less than 50 seconds to create a small spaceship, inspired by the Hellcat fighter from the Wing Commander Saga. The craft, which is just 125 micrometers long, was built with the help of two-photon polymerization, in which ultra-short laser pulses activate photosensitive building materials. The spacecraft can’t fly, but can be well used for space exploration.
