Handiness And Simplistic Design Of OwnFone (+VIDEO)
OwnFone is an innovative cellphone concept, characterized by user friendliness and simplicity at a moderate price. Unlike smartphones like those produced by Apple and Samsung, turning a mobile telephone into a computer, personal organizer etc, OwnFone features a reserved interface, a handset with a number of basic buttons, each is printed with a contact’s name which corresponds to a predefined number chosen upon purchase. The few other buttons turn the phone on and off, answer calls and hang up, adjust volume. It lacks SMS messaging, a display and a keypad to dial numbers with. Buying an OwnFone, users get the possibility to personalize the phone’s color and design to their taste. The number change on the OwnFone can be done for free just by dialing the OwnFone helpline, while new contact buttons can be purchased for £5 (US$8). With no numbers, but only names to press, the gadget could be useful primarily for children, the elderly and handicapped. In its current incarnation, contacts are represented by their names, but it will soon be possible to customize a phone with either photos or Braille.
