Eye Stick Helps The Visually Impaired Get Around Safely
Kim Tae-Jin has created a saber-like device, a fitting replacement of the traditional cane for the blind. The Eye Stick is a design concept winner of the 2012 red dot award. It helps the sight impaired to move in their surroundings safely due to the built in rays and ultrasonic sensors, which measure distance, unaffected by any weather conditions, like rain. fog, etc. The ultrasonic system detects barriers and changes in floor level in advance and delivers its user information about hazards. Collisions with other pedestrians are prevented due to the projected light. One more handy feature of the Eye Stick is that it can get information about products: a camera scans barcodes and sends information through a Bluetooth connection, then it is converted to voice.
