Lo Monaco House concept designed by Tom Wiscombe is purely futuristic and at first sight resembles a shuttle on a launchpad. The building combines two forms: an eye-catching crystal-like pointed mass and the slab-like pedestal it stands on. The living room, kitchen and dining area are located in the crystal, while bedrooms, private studios and a pool are meant for the pedestal level below. According to designer, this layout was influenced by the creative works of Constantin Brâncusi, a Romanian-born sculptor, who carved simplified depictions of human heads and animals. The two large irregular windows in the crystal face north and south, both surrounded by smaller windows, and outlined by solid and dashed black lines. The latter are looking similar to Ta moko, the tattoo-like grooves with which Maori people permanently mark their faces and bodies.
