Commercial Supersonic Flights To Come Back Soon

Since the Concorde stopped its existence, many research groups have been working on getting the supersonic flights back to life. That would mean solving the problems that seized the existence of the former like: sonic boom noise, high fuel consumption, limited sitting space.

Seems that an MIT scientist Qiqi Wang has done that. Wang and his colleagues have used the Busemann’s idea of a biplane to create the optimal solution. This supersonic aircraft has double wings which helps eliminate the shock waves at supersonic speeds. The modifications done by the researchers also help the biplane significantly reduce the drag, which cuts the fuel consumption which in turn provides more space for the passengers and not for the tank.
