Cities On Cushions Planned For Japan To Withstand Disasters

Sako Architects created the project of “Air Village” named Tohoku Sky Village, where the towns are actually situated on the ‘cushion’ (made of debris) compared to the surrounding landscape. These town-islands, thanks to their uplifted location, will be protected during disasters, floods and heavy rains. To survive the disasters more or less comfortably the Tohoku Sky Village will be equipped with solar panels, wind turbines and minor hydroelectric power plants.
