Boeing Designs A High Energy Laser Mobile Demonstrator

Being aware of the fact, that tomorrow is with lasers, Boeing has designed a mobile laser weapon system from a truck. This eight-wheel, 500-horsepower Oshkosh Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT) has already been altereded by Boeing with a beam control system along with tracking and targeting hardware and software. The last piece of news is, that Boeing has just agreed with the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command on putting a ten-kilowatt solid-state laser system into it, thus making the HEL MD (High Energy Laser Mobile Demonstrator) operational. It is planned, that next year Boeing will practise using the HEL MD to shoot different “threat-representative” targets, like rockets, drones, artillery and mortar projectiles.
