‘Bionic Eye’ To Be Implanted To Human At 2013
The team of scientists at the University of NSW headed by Professors Nigel Lovell and Gregg Suaning, have claimed bionic eye prototype they have recently created is ready to be implanted into human patients by 2013. This bionic eye consists of a processing chip, 98 electrodes and a micro camera. The images are to be processed by a smartphone and sent to the chip and into the patient’s brain, which will accept these optic signals as vision or sight. Though the implanting and recovery periods are long, researchers hope their bionic eye will help many people with vision problems cope with their everyday life.
