Obama has recently passed a disputable bill, allowing the commercial use of drones in 2015. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), responsible for regulating this initiative, has already calculated that within 10 next years 30,000 civilian drones will appear in the country. Civilian drones can be equipped with software that collects video footage, recognizes faces, intercepts cell towers, scans entire cities, etc. Unlike military drones civilian drones are highly exposed to possibility of being attacked or harmed. The EFF’s Trevor Timms and Parker Higgins have recently addressed the issue about hacking into civilian drones at the HOPE 9 conference in New York City. One’s privacy might be in danger because they use unencrypted GPS feeds to spare money.
